An outdoor wedding ceremony at Woodland Weddings

Anya & Paul’s Wedding at Woodland Weddings

Natural moments, woodland surroundings, and a relaxed celebration

Anya & Paul’s woodland wedding at Lila’s Wood in Tring was an incredible celebration full of love, laughter, and a real embrace of the great British summer. The rain showers could not dampen the spirits of this wonderful couple or their guests. The woodland setting, beautiful personal ceremony, fun wedding details, and even a dramatic England match all came together to create a truly unforgettable wedding day. The Wedding Day

The summer of 2024 was by far the wettest I’ve experienced in my 12 years as a wedding photographer. I was a little concerned leading up to Anya and Paul’s wedding at Lila’s Wood in Tring — the home of Woodland Weddings — as the forecast was looking unsettled for their outdoor celebration. Thankfully, I needn’t have worried. Although the rain made several appearances throughout the day, Anya & Paul’s wedding was simply wonderful from start to finish.

The venue was beautifully prepared for any weather, with a canopy covering the ceremony area and a large stretch tent for guests to mingle, dine, and shelter throughout the day. On arrival, it was already quite damp, and I captured some lovely moments as Paul greeted guests arriving under umbrellas. The anticipation built as we waited for Anya’s arrival — and perfectly timed, the rain eased just as she stepped out for the ceremony.

Their ceremony was incredibly personal, beautifully decorated with pampas grass, and made even more special as Anya’s brother officiated. The couple’s smiles lit up the woodland as they exchanged vows, surrounded by their loved ones. Afterwards, there were plenty of warm hugs and happy tears as everyone congratulated the newlyweds.

The drinks reception followed, with light drizzle failing to dampen anyone’s spirits. Guests happily mingled while I captured relaxed couple portraits amongst the trees, taking advantage of the magical woodland backdrop.

Under the stretch tent, heartfelt speeches brought plenty of laughter. Paul delivered his speech in true style, wearing a standout faux fur coat that added an extra fun touch to proceedings.

Later in the afternoon, the celebrations briefly paused as everyone gathered under the stretch tent to watch the England vs Switzerland Euro 2024 quarterfinal. With a tense 1-1 draw after extra time, England’s win on penalties brought a huge wave of relief and celebration, giving a boost of energy that carried beautifully into the evening.

Anya and Paul decided to skip the traditional wedding cake, opting instead for a wedding cake piñata. After a few swings from the bride and groom, the younger guests eagerly took turns before showering everyone with sweets — a brilliant alternative that brought plenty of smiles and laughter.

As the sun went down, guests gathered around the firepits, and the evening kicked off with dancing under the canopy.

Despite the mixed weather, Anya and Paul’s Lila’s Wood wedding was a perfect example of how to embrace the British summer and enjoy every moment. A huge shoutout to the amazing Woodland Weddings team for ensuring the day ran smoothly, rain or shine. It was a true pleasure to capture such a fun-filled and joyful celebration in this stunning woodland setting.

FAQs

Woodland Weddings takes place at Lila’s Wood in Tring (near Hastoe). It’s a woodland venue surrounded by trees, with space for a stretch tent setup and relaxed outdoor celebrations.

Group photos work really well here. A popular option is in front of the stretch tent, which keeps everyone close to the action and avoids breaking up the flow. I can also take group shots in the connecting field or on the driveway into the site, but those spots usually mean taking family and guests away from the main area for a little while.

Yes. I’ve photographed multiple weddings at Woodland Weddings and know the site well, including the treehouse and stretch tent areas.
