The Wedding Day

Morning preparations

The day began with groom prep in the on-site cottage at Notley Abbey, where Dan got ready with his groomsmen. The atmosphere was calm and upbeat, setting the tone perfectly for the day ahead.

Meanwhile, Francesca got ready in the beautiful bridal suite. It was filled with laughter, music, and great natural light. One of my favourite moments from the morning was photographing Francesca walking down the grand staircase with her dad. A quiet, emotional moment just before everything began.

Ceremony in the Monks’ Refectory

Francesca and Dan tied the knot in the Monks’ Refectory, a stunning ceremony space with a warm atmosphere and elegant surroundings. It is a brilliant room for natural, unobtrusive coverage, allowing moments to unfold without interruption.

The ceremony was joyful and emotional, with plenty of smiles and reactions from guests.

Confetti, celebrations and candid moments

After the ceremony, we headed to the front of the Abbey for confetti photos among the lavender, one of Notley Abbey’s signature spots. The energy was brilliant, with hugs, cheers, and laughter everywhere. One particularly hilarious moment saw Dan being lifted into the air by his friends, which made for some fantastic candid images.

Guests then enjoyed drinks and conversations on the lawns while I captured relaxed documentary moments and group photos.

Portraits at the front of the house

When everyone was called in for the wedding breakfast, we took a few minutes for some portraits at the front of the house. We started with relaxed walking shots, keeping everything natural and easy, before capturing a few more portraits that made the most of the beautiful setting.

Details in the Monk’s Refectory

The Monk’s Refectory looked beautiful set up for the wedding breakfast, so I made sure to photograph the details before the guests went in. From the room styling to the table settings, it was a lovely space and well worth capturing before the celebrations continued.

Wedding breakfast and speeches

The wedding breakfast was full of atmosphere, with lots of great candid moments as Francesca and Dan made their way around the tables chatting to guests. The speeches were a real highlight too, especially their joint speech, which felt personal, relaxed, and a perfect reflection of them both.

Candids during the tea and coffee break

During the tea and coffee break, there was time for plenty more natural moments as guests relaxed and chatted. I also grabbed a few posed photos of Francesca and Dan with their coffees, which added another fun and informal set of images to the day.

Golden hour portraits and a surprise rainbow

Later in the evening, just before the first dance, we stepped outside again for a few more portraits and were treated to a perfect rainbow stretching across the sky. We headed to the driveway to make the most of it, capturing a beautiful final set of portraits with an unexpected backdrop.

Evening celebrations and DJ groom

The reception was full of laughter, heartfelt speeches, and brilliant music. As the evening progressed, guests gathered on the lawn before heading inside for a packed dance floor.

Dan, who is a DJ himself, took to the decks with friends for a high-energy set that kept the party going well into the night. A brilliant way to end an unforgettable day.

Francesca and Dan’s wedding was such a lovely one to photograph, with so many relaxed moments, beautiful spaces, and little surprises throughout the day, including that incredible rainbow just before the first dance. It was a real pleasure to capture everything from the emotional moments to the fun in between.
