My favourite time is after dark, because it gives the photo a much punchier, more dramatic feel. The spray stands out more, the droplets look crisper, and the whole image feels that bit more striking.

It is also a practical choice. If a bit of fizz ends up on your outfits, it is usually much less of a concern once the more formal parts of the day are out of the way.

Should it just be the two of you?

Most of the time, yes.

Keeping it just the two of you keeps things simple and usually gives the strongest photo. It also means the focus stays on you both.

If you would like to involve your bridal party or a few friends, that is absolutely doable too. You just need a bit more space and a few extra bottles. For bigger groups, Nozeco is usually the sensible choice.

Do you need to ask your venue first?

Yes, definitely.

Some venues are completely happy for this to happen outdoors, while others have rules about where it can be done, especially if it needs to be kept away from furniture, doorways, or areas where guests are standing.

A few venues also do not allow you to bring your own bottles on site, which might mean you are limited to what is available at the bar.

If you are unsure, it is always worth asking your venue coordinator first. That way, you know exactly what is allowed and can plan it properly.

What do you need to buy?

If you would like you both to take part, I would recommend at least four bottles of Nozeco.

That gives you two solid attempts at the shot, without worrying if a bottle does not pop properly or the spray is a bit underwhelming first time round.

It is also much better than buying expensive Champagne from the bar, because you are doing this for the photo rather than for drinking. Just check your venue’s policy first, as some venues have corkage rules or prefer you to use what they supply.

What happens during the photo?

It is actually very quick and straightforward.

I will guide you into the right spot, talk you through what to do, and keep it simple. You do not need to work anything out for yourselves on the day.

The basic idea is:

Chill the bottle first, as cold bottles usually spray better.
Don’t pre-shake before opening. A common mistake is thinking you need to shake it first, but don’t. Get it open, get your grip sorted, then you’re in control.
Open it safely and keep it pointed away from faces, guests, and anything you don’t want covered in fizz.
Cover the top of the bottle with your thumb as soon as it is open.
When I give you the signal, start shaking the bottle while keeping your thumb over the opening. This helps control the spray, a bit like putting your thumb over a garden hose.
Keep going until I shout “stop”, then you can relax and enjoy the chaos.

If we are doing the shot later in the evening, it is important to stay on the spot I place you on, as even a small step can change how the final image looks.

One pose that works really well is standing slightly angled away from each other, spraying in opposite directions, then turning your heads back towards each other. That helps keep the spray from blocking your faces and looks brilliant in photos.

Most importantly, champagne spray photos work best when you really go for it. Big smiles, lots of movement, and not worrying about looking perfectly tidy is exactly what makes them so fun.
