Mel & Neil's Wedding at The Oak Grove

Mel and Neil wed at The Oak Grove in North Kent on a very wet August day. The Oak Grove is a unique summer wedding venue which offers an exclusive and relaxed festival experience. The Oak Grove copse is a beautiful setting surrounded by farmland on three sides and is close to the banks of the River Medway. The Oak Grove features a living willow arbour for outdoor wedding ceremonies and features a large tent which is perfect for wedding dining and dancing.

On the day of the wedding, rain was forecast so unfortunately, it looked as though Mel and Neil’s dreams of an outdoor wedding were over. Guests arrived during torrential rain and there were lots of concerned faces as action was taken to move the ceremony inside.

Less than 10 minutes before the ceremony there was a break in the rain so with the agreement with the registrar Mel and Neil made the decision to move the ceremony back outside!

The outdoor ceremony was great fun. Everyone felt so lucky to be outside as planned. Mel walked down the aisle with her Mum and was led by her flower girls and pageboy. As the ceremony went on the rain returned and umbrellas went up but that led to a very memorable wedding service.

After the ceremony, there was another short dry spell which was perfectly timed as it allowed Mel and Neil enough time to greet each of their guests. Mel and Neil’s guests included Neil’s cousin Joni and her husband Calum whose wedding I photographed in Rickmansworth the year prior.

As the rain came down again everyone head inside the tent for afternoon tea. Entertainment was provided by Mel and Neil’s son who performed a number of Rat Pack songs together with a few friends throughout the afternoon during which time the rain finally stopped.

Mel and Neil had requested a group shot of all their guests on the banks of the River Medway so after everyone had eaten we all head along the footpath to the bank for a fun group shot which can be seen below.

The rest of the day was great fun to capture. Speeches were given by Neil and his best man and then after guests enjoyed delicious food served from “Coq Au Van” a vintage food van and then partied along to a fantastic wedding band.

Congratulations Mel and Neil!
